Plesich, 48, took the early lead in Tuesday’s general election and never looked back, winning about 70 percent of the 29,234 votes cast. Unofficial tallies from the Jefferson County Board of Elections show Plesich, a Steubenville resident, won 20,430 votes to 8,804 for Democrat Candy Newburn, a Bloomingdale resident and longtime Wayne Township official.
“I’m extremely grateful to the citizens of Jefferson County for trusting me with their vote,” Plesich said afterward. “I’m pleased with the results — I think it shows people like what we’ve been doing.”
Plesich said he and his staff “worked very hard during the past four years.”
“I believe we built a strong foundation for the future of the department, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to come back and be able to build on it,” he said.
Plesich said his staff “is doing a tremendous job, I think people are taking notice that we’re working hard, trying to do the right things for the right reason and offer the best possible services at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers.”
